I’m interviewing writer Amie Gibbons, best known for her urban fantasies. I regularly review books like her novel The Gods Defense. She’s written a number of other paranormal mysteries and legal dramas. And I had the opportunity to interview Ms. Gibbons.

Tamara Wilhite: The sixth book in Ariana’s series, the Psychic detective series, came out late 2018. Do you expect to write a seventh?

Amie Gibbons: Yes, I am about half way through the 7th book. Ran into some issues writing with everything going on in my life, but it is in the works.

Tamara Wilhite: These books are sometimes labeled as “SDF”. What does that stand for?

Amie Gibbons: SDF stands for the Special Division Force. It’s the name of the semi secret division of the FBI that deals with supernatural cases, and is the unit Ariana, the main character, works for at the start of the series.

Tamara Wilhite: You write a lot of what I’d call fantasy legal drama. How did attending law school affect your writing career?

Amie Gibbons: Law school gave me a good basis for incorporating some law into my books, just enough to make it more realistic. But it did put my writing career on the back burner for a few years. Law school takes a lot out of you and I basically gave up on writing for 4 years, and then had to take time to amp it up again.

Tamara Wilhite: I have read “The Gods Defense”. Is there going to be a Laws of Magic Book 2?

Amie Gibbons: There will be more books in the Laws of Magic series. In the second one, I ran into some plotting problems, which is why that one has been put aside for now, but I will get back and work it out eventually.

Tamara Wilhite: What other projects are you working on?

Amie Gibbons: Right now I’m working on a book called Scorpions of the Deep. It’s the first in a series about demons on Earth and average, everyday people trying to fight them.
