DAILY REPORT TO RAF CHIEF NEWALL

22JULY, 1940

THE SABOTAGE CAMPAIGN SIGNIFICANTLY HEIGHTENED FOLLOWING NEWS OF NAVAL DEFEAT YESTERDAY. REPORTS CAME IN FROM CASTLE BROMWICH OF ASSAULT ON THE SPITFIRE FACTORY. GUNFIRE AND EXPLOSIONS RIPPED THROUGH PRODUCTION LINES AND ALREADY COMPLETED SPITFIRES. HUMAN TOLL UNKNOWN, BUT THE PRODUCTION TOLL IS INCALCUABLE. PRODUCTION IN THE SOUTHAMPTON FACTORY IS ONLY JUST ACHIEVEING SEVENTY-FIVE PERCENT EFFICENCY FROM LAST MONTH’S ACTIONS.

IN ADDITION, RADAR STATIONS IN PLYMOUTH WERE SAVED FROM ATTEMPTED ATTACK. MEN CAPTURED WERE NOT PERCIEVED TO BE IRISH GIVEN THEIR INABILITY TO SPEAK IN A CONVINCING ACCENT AS WELL AS THEIR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE OF IRISH FOOTBALL CLUBS. LOCAL AUTHORITIES ARE CONVINCED THAT THESE MEN ARE GERMAN ABWHER AGENTS.

FIGHTER COMMAND GROUP 13 HEADQUARTERS HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY RELOCATED AND FIGHTER COMMAND GROUP 11 HEADQUARTERS WILL RECEIVE ITS EXTRA SECURITY AS PER YOUR RECCOMENDATION. IN ADDITION, THE REPAIRS ON THE CANTERBURY RADAR STATIONS SHOULD BE FINISHED WITHIN THE NEXT THREE DAYS.

GERMAN AIR RAIDS AROUND HULL NOT AS SUCCESSFUL AS PREVIOUS THOSE EARLIER IN THE WEEK. MINIMAL DAMAGE AND A GREATER RESPONSE TIME, BUT WITH LOSS OF FIVE FIGHTERS AND PILOTS. ATTEMPTS WILL BE MADE TO FIND REPLACEMENTS BY TOMORROW, BUT MAY TAKE AS LATE AS NEXT WEEK.
