Editor’s Note: We’re proud to be featuring Michael Lind’s work at Liberty Island. This is the fourth of eight poems.

When we were young, the summer said,

“Don’t think of winter days ahead,

But make some memories to charm

A winter world no longer warm.”

Now that the days are short and cold

And you’re no longer here to hold,

I think of summer days with you

And know what summer said was true.
